Crawford's prestigious private school. Still, "Finding Forrester" is a solid entry into the 'teacher/student' genre and the first film of a potential new star. An awesome basketball player and the owner on an exceptional intellect, 16-year old Jamal is missing. Murray Abraham a failed author and Forrester devotee, doesn't believe a boy from the Bronx is capable of writing Jamal's words and sets out to discredit him. Crawford adamantly states that this will not change any of the board's decisions. Busta Rhymes, in the small part as Jamal's parking lot supervisor brother Terrell, is a funny character, providing much of the comic relief for the film.

In Finding Forrester a movie that takes place in the Bronx, there are two main characters, William Forrester and Jamal Wallace who find friendship in an unlikely way because of their passion for reading and writing. While Mike Rich's screenplay doesn't offer any real surprises, sometimes dipping into cliche, rebounding with good dialogue, the amazing chemistry between veteran actor Connery and the untrained Brown is palpable. He has transitioned from the cool, suave James Bond persona into a senior statesman of the acting profession. He's too obviously a device to allow the arrogant teacher to get his comeuppance from Jamal and William by the end of the flick. She didn't understand that fish are not pets to be held or caressed like you would a kitten. For example, when Jamal's English professor thinks he used a title from another author's writing without permission he demands Jamal to write a letter of apology and read it in front of the class. The deep voiced, white haired man startles the boy and, instead of procuring a trophy, he leaves his backpack containing all his writing in the man's cluttered apartment.
